Start off by choosing a star shape and set your key frames for the motion. From there go to the MoGraph menu and choose tracer and then in tracer object attributes drop your star shape into the trace link section, if its not in there already. Then create a circle and drop both the circle and star into a sweep NURBS object. This gives you a basic tail that will trail the star shape or object you have chosen. From there Don shows you how to refine the tracer trails by going into details section of the Sweep NURBS object to change the design and appearance of the tails for a cooler looking effect.

Cinema 4D Tutorial Model Soccer Ball

VideoFort Don is back to show you how to create your own 3-dimensional soccer ball. Start out by creating a platonic shape and setting its type to Bucky. From there you need to get rid of the line separating the polygons into halves. To do that select each polygon individually and melt the two halves together. Then Don shows you how to extrude the polygons to give your soccer ball a rounded look. Now you can add texture and color to the ball by creating two new materials, one white and one black. Apply the white material to the entire ball. After you’ve applied the white, select the center most segments of the 5-sided polygons, then go to selection, grow selection. Notice the next segment of the polygon fill, hit “U I” to repeat this until all segments of the 5-sided polygons are filled. After you have all the 5-sided polygons selected you can apply the black material to the ball. You should now have a ball that resembles a soccer ball.

Cinema 4D Tutorial Flickering Light Effect on text

VideoFort Don shows you how to create a flickering light effect on text in Cinema 4D (Similar to Tron). You would make this flickering light text by first creating a text layer and dropping it into extrude NURBS. From there you duplicate the text, create a circle (approximate radius 2 cm), and drop both those into a sweep NURBS layer. Now you have a 3D text ready to add a flicker effect. From there you create a luminance layer and drop it on the sweep NURBS layer. To create the flickering effect you would turn on and off the sweep NURBS layer’s visibility by setting key frames within the timeline.

Cinema 4D Tutorial Speed Up and Slow Down

Start out by setting a floor and create a sphere in a new project, from there you clone the sphere into a grid for multiple spheres and put a random effector on it to make it less uniform. Your plane and cloned layers need to be set to rigid body and the cloned’s individual elements need to be set to all, this will allow the spheres to move freely instead of as a group. VideoFort Don then shows us where and how to set key frames using timescale to create the slow down and speed up motion with the movement of the spheres when they explode.

Adobe After Effects one of the many programs within the adobe creative suite. After Effects is designed specifically for video editing effects and provides innovative compositing and animation tools to create high-impact communications by combining moving imagery, still images and graphics, text, and sound in 2D or 3D space and then animating virtually any aspect of each element.

Start out by filming your actor jumping into the air, then have them run out of frame as soon as they land from their jump. A tripod is necessary so that frame jumps don’t occur when editing your final shot. VideoFort Don shows an example of a frame jump as his video is filmed without a tripod. After you have the shot, Don shows you how to continue the jump upward, mask your actor’s body, and add a motion blur to create the flying effect. From there you learn how to create a shock wave on the ground from scratch to sell your superman take off.

Cinema 4D Tutorial Effectors

Although effectors are often used on MoGraph Objects, they can be used to effect any object. After selecting a primitive plane to effect, VideoFort Don chooses a random effector and makes it the child of the object being affected. He then chooses a polygon deformation, and sets the effector’s random mode to noise to create a wavy effect on the plane similar to ocean water’s wavy surface.

Tutorial: Time Lapse

In this time lapse tutorial VideoFort Don covers how to shoot a time-lapse using firmware Magic Lantern in lieu of using an intervalometer, which is usually required for time-lapse photography.

Time-lapse photography is a technique whereby the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than that used to view the sequence. When played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing. For example, an image of a scene may be captured once every second, then played back at 30 frames per second. The result is an apparent 30-times speed increase. Time-lapse photography can be considered the opposite of high speed photography or slow motion.

An intervalometer is a device that plugs into a camera and controls how often, how long and how many shots are taken.

Magic Lantern is a software enhancement that offers increased functionality to the excellent Canon DSLR cameras. It frees your Canon DSLR and allows you to use many useful features.

He also suggests areas and subjects for best time-lapse results. Then he shows you how to bring the photos into After Effects to create your finished time-lapse.

Cinema 4D is a program to aid in creating 3D effects in videos.

Cinema 4D Tutorial Advanced Lighting

In the process you will learn how to place your key light and 3 additional lights in the 3D space to create a natural light look.

VideoFort Don starts by placing a key light at a high angle above a 3D object in the composition, this will serve as the main light for the object. He then copies that light making a fill light, which helps soften any hard lines on the object. He then inserts a third light, the back light. This light creates contrast between the object and the background, bringing life to the scene. Finally VideoFort Don adds a bounce light in front of and below the object. This light also helps soften shadows revealing more detail in the object. He follows up by adding filters to the lights, creating a more natural, and custom look.

In this After Effects tutorial VideoFort Don shows you how to track 2D Elements onto a human eye.

In the first step you need to find a good spot to track, VideoFort Don chose a shadow on the eye that stayed consistent through the shot. If the track slips you can tweak the tracking to smooth everything. Next create a null object name it “tracker data” then go to edit target for the tracking and set the layer to tracker data. Now create a new white solid, name it mask and create a mask around the whites of the eye. Make sure to parent the mask layer to the tracker data layer. You can animate the mask to the blink by key framing it. Then you will the 2D elements underneath the white mask layer and set a Luma Matte. Lets move on to animating the 2D element. Open up the 2D element comp and use expressions to change rotations on your 2D element. To finish you can add color and glow to the 2D element.

Featured Product: The NordicTrack, Inc. Cross Country Skier ($349-$1,499)

In NordicTrack’s storymercial, the company takes an honest approach at delivering the compelling tale of how two normal everyday people create a change in their health and life through their willingness to give the NordicTrack Cross Country Skier a try.

Instead of the typical overdramatized oiled up, ripped sweating young bodies and sexy music and lighting, NordicTrack wanted to give the viewers something real and tangible that people can connect to and realistically achieve with the use of the exerciser.

The storymercial proved to be effective with its storytelling driven by a combination of intertwined testimonials of the product, benefits of the machine explained through demonstrations, and the use of comparisons to other exercise machines in the same market. Additionally the unique story built up the brand image through a number of references to NordicTrack’s durability, quality, meticulous engineering, and customer relations.

NordicTrack envisioned leading the path in exercise machines. The company grew to number 1 market share within the category after launching their storymercial. Not to mention the annual revenues grew from $17 million to over $500 million.
